Tim Rhodes BA(Hons.), M.Sc., MBCS, CITP, MCDST
Tim
began his IT career by successfully completing a Masters
in Computer Science at the University of London (Birkbeck).
He then took a position as a Software Engineer working for
Northrop Grumman IT Europe (NGITE) Ltd, where he was involved
in real-time C4I application development for information
support systems within the UK Defence sector. Tim was actively
involved in achieving the ISO9001 Quality Standard accreditation
within NGITE and consequently gained experience working
in a total quality controlled environment.
Initially Tim's focus was on developing client/server
systems within the Unix environment using C/C++ and X/Motif.
He regularly worked alongside MoD procurement subject matter
experts to elicit and analyse their requirements to propose
solutions. Tim moved on within NGITE to become the Project
Technical Manager leading a team responsible for developing
C4I software to be hosted on Windows NT clients. In this
activity he gained experience using Visual C++, J++ and
IIS. Following on from NGITE, Tim spent a number of months
with EDS Defence aiding C4I systems development and integration
whilst providing support at all levels, including software
sea trials.
In order to gain experience outside the Defence sector,
Tim then re-located to Devon where he joined a small software
house responsible for the suite of applications running
within all ntl: call centres. Tim led the development team
for these applications, which were primarily written in
Visual Basic and use both Oracle and AS400 databases, and
simultaneously provided first-line 24/7 on-call support.
Tim has qualified as a Microsoft Certified Professional, a Microsoft Desktop Support Technician
and is also a Chartered Member of the British Computer Society. He is Product
Director for iridium and, working closely with Sam, manages
a number of client development and support contracts.
Outside work, Tim enjoys cycling, tennis, squash, running
and performing arts. He is also a keen pianist and plays
keyboards regularly in a couple of tribute bands across
the UK.
