Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions we are asked:
Q: Can you set up a
wireless network?
A: Yes, we provide wireless
or wired networks (and we also do the wiring).
Q: Do I really need
a network?
A: Maybe not. We will discuss your business
needs and share ideas that may not involve networking so
you are able to make an informed decision.
Q: What is "outsourcing"
IT?
A: We supplement your staff or take full
control of administering your network. It's like having
a full-time IT staff at a fraction of the cost.
Q: Isn't it cheaper
for me to do this "in-house"?
A: Absolutely not. For small- and medium-sized
businesses, you can save money by choosing iridium as your
personal IT department.
Q: Why choose iridium
instead of another provider?
A: We understand your business objectives
and information technology... and think like your staff,
offering trusted and unbiased recommendations. Our goal
is to be your long-term business partner. We measure our
success by the satisfaction of our customers. We believe
in giving you more than you pay for.
Q: What hardware do
you use? Will my legacy applications still work?
A: We have business relationships with
several major suppliers and only use brand name industry
standard hardware. You don't have to worry about any proprietary
hardware that is difficult to service. Your applications
will probably run faster and more reliably than you expect.
Q: Can you schedule
my backups to run automatically?
A: Yes, scheduling is available so that
your backups are automated, and unattended. Restores are
tested periodically as part of our support package.
Q: Can I send out bulk
e-mails using my e-mail server?
A: E-mail restrictions are typically
imposed by an Internet Service Provider (ISP). With your
own e-mail server you can send and receive as many e-mails
as you like with no space, content, or size limitations.
Q: Can I host my own
web site on your installed server?
A: Yes, the hardware we use is fully
capable of hosting your web site. There are several ways
we can do this but, in every case, the good news is that
you will no longer have to pay monthly fees to host your
web site.
Q: Can I stop my users
from surfing to certain web sites if I want?
A: Yes, you can block access to certain
web sites by name so your users will no longer be able to
bring up the site on their computer. Even better, you can
redirect them to a message reminding them of your company
policy.
Q: Am I exposed to
hackers?
A: No, we will apply the appropriate
level of security for your business situation. Network security
is complex and tailored to your network. Generally, you
should expect at least a hardware "Firewall" that
blocks all incoming traffic that could potentially be dangerous,
so hackers are kept away.
Q: Am I limited to
the number of e-mail addresses I can have?
A: This is typically a limitation imposed
by an ISP (unless you pay extra). With your own e-mail server
you can have as many mailboxes as you want.
Q: Is a Maintenance
Agreement required?
A: No, but experience has proven it is
the most cost effective way to maintain your network so
it will work the way you want. The maintenance agreement
provides many bundled services including:
- Comprehensive monthly inspections of your network
components including E-mail Servers, Web Servers, and
Security as well as other network administration concerns
(Backup/Restore, shared folders and permissions, Internet
status, etc.).
- Regular application of Service Packs, Updates, and
Operating System patches.
- Real-time 24-hour monitoring of your network, server,
and web site. We pride ourselves on being able to detect
and resolve any network problems before they affect
your network. We won't even bother you with it - remember
- You focus on your business; we take care of your network.
- Priority Scheduling for telephone, remote, and/or
on-site technical support issues.
- Best efforts for Emergency Response times within an
agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA).
- Advice and support for purchases and hardware / software
requirements.
